(For now, we are still publishing the FAQ on the thread each week, in the hope that lurkers and newbies will see it.)

There is a lot to be said by the positive presence of the FAQ on the thread periodically ... it is so easy for more casual observers to skip over references in headers and the like, especially with 30000+ posts.

I do wonder, though, if the FAQ might be easier to maintain and potentially richer, if the bulk of it were moved, like the lists, to a web site and that what showed up each interval was a link, a table of contents, and references about what had changed. With the right TOC, this would be appealing to the newbie, possibly dipping each time into a different section, and might be a little less overwhelming that something that, while highly valuable, now takes more that one post to contain.
