If The Economist is again a contrarian indicator, I would interpret its picture of the Arab and falcon and its headline, "Is oil poised to strike?" as meaning:

1) OPEC doesn't matter as much as it used to.
2) Oil doesn't matter as much as it used to.

IMO the first is already true, and the second is partly true. But it may not make much difference for several months, especially if any of those "seemingly small problems" kick in, like a very cold winter, or Iraq deciding to cut off production.

With things tough in the Japanese markets, perhaps we'll see more of that money coming into the U.S. markets where they can earn higher returns...

The NDX continues to hold above 3720... If it can build a base here, it will have found support on the rising bottoms trendline...
