IMPCO Holding (imco: news, chart) is charging $4.69, or 19 percent higher, to $30.06. The company announced that, in collaboration with a team of other researchers, have successfully tested a hydrogen storage cylinder designed for fuel cell vehicle. Among the collaborators are Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories and Alcoa Industrial Components Group, a subsidiary of of Alcoa (aa: news, chart). IMPCO said the cyclinder allows fuel cell vehicles to travel further between pit stops than previously thought possible. Among others in the fuel cell business, FuelCell Energy (fcel: news, chart) is flying $18.44 to $176, Ballard Power (bldp: news, chart) is hiking $9.50 higher to $119.38 and Plug Power (plug: news, chart) is surging $12.63 to $54. These stocks have been on a tear of late. Since the end of August, FCEL is up 48 percent, BLDP is 18 percent better and PLUG is 21 percent higher. Two other movers Tuesday are Mechanical Energy (mkty: news, chart) and H Power (hpow: news, chart). Mechanical Energy, which holds a significant stake in Plug Power, is up $3.38, or 29 percent, to $15. H Power, a Clifton, N.J., fuel cell firm, is advancing $5.31, or 23 percent, to $28.94."

VLNC is looking much better as an environmentally friendly battery alternative in this wireless age.
