Actually, it's a good example if you think about it.

Those his example might influence probably vote only out of a sense of duty, rather than a commitment to the issues. Such a vote would likely be less informed, and thus a vote for the democrat.

If it's like Illinois you have to go to the courthouse 14 days prior to the election and vote. Could be a lot of those elections he didn't know he'd be out of town 14 days in advance. Also our last township election was for supervisor, rep to the county and road commissioner. I didn't vote as there was only one person running in each race.
