SKT's recent announcement that it would delay 3G deployment until the fall of
2003 is in response to concerns that W-CDMA service will result in the import of
most of the equipment, in detriment to the economy. It is expected that Samsung
Electronics would be able to complete development of W-CDMA equipment by
the fall of 2003.

When did this most recent announcement come out? I was thinking the most recent announcement was that the Korean
government had convinced SKT to do CDMA2000 with the proviso that they could change if it "wasn't economic". Is this
announcement that they will wait until fall of 2003 the latest way for them to meet Samsung's criticism that they wouldn't be building on the Samsung expertise in CDMA2000?
Doesn't sound good.

let SKT wait until 2003 for 3G. It will find itself in trouble, way behind its competitors. Its arguments, as elucidated in the article, are bull. Interesting how the article says cdma will merely "compete" with 3G, wcdma.

It seems to me what is going on in China is that the local mfrs are ready to supply. Dr. J. said yesterday that qcom convinced China that it is not wasting money by installing IS-95 because of the seemless upgrade. My guess is China is very interested in HDR and cdma2000, because its lack of wireline or fiber infrastructure means that wireless is the best way to get broadband fast. Therefore, once it builds cdma, it will move to the higher data capabilities very quickly. SKT will find itself outclassed by China. Hilarious when you think about it.
