Ames Builds Two New Stores to Bring Statewide Store
Count to 55; Employment to More Than 4,250
Ames Department Stores, Inc. announced today it will celebrate the opening of
two Columbus area stores on September 21, 2000. The two locations
represent the company's first ground-up construction projects in more than a
decade.
With the opening of Ames' Canal Winchester and Columbus, Ohio stores,
Ames' statewide presence increases to 55 retail stores. At just over 65,000
square feet of selling space, these locations are built to replicate the benchmark
of Ames' success: a smaller, more manageable store footprint, an
easy-to-shop, bright layout, full-line product offerings at competitive prices, and
unparalleled customer service. Ames also operates a 1.1 million square foot
distribution center in Columbus.

Ames senior executives, store associates and local dignitaries will kick-off the
Grand Opening Celebrations on Thursday, September 21, 2000, with a
ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:00 a.m. Special Grand Opening events include
live musical entertainment, product demonstrations, costumed characters,
giveaways and sweepstakes. These special events will continue through
Saturday, September 23, 2000.
