Our little kittens haven't "earned it" from birds yet though I'm sure that day will come. They're starting to earn it from me tho, with that pooping in the garage thing. The saying might be "a man's home is his castle" but it's really his garage.

That stinks about the scary dogs. I got little kids so something like that would freak me out and have me mulling lots of nefarious possibilities. Besides sitting out back with a shotgun just itching for one to cross the property line, prominent in my mind would be something like arsenic on steak stealthily offered at about 3am. I'm thinking along the same lines about a neighbors dog which likes to start two hour barkfests at around 3 in the morn.

I happen to have a 90lb lab/shepherd mutt which seems to be utterly lacking in killer instinct. A real sweetie. Yet a pure lab a couple houses down who is a good buddy of my dog won't hesitate to chase down and kill a cat, squirrel, whatever. Sweet with kids and adults tho. I've asked my dog to have a long talk with him pointing out that he's got little cat pals to watch out for, but he says "I'm just a wussie to him, it's no good".

Does your community have an animal control officer, or an ordinance against dangerous animals? Are these people renters or owners, and if renters, maybe a stern letter to the landlord (with copy to the insurance company) advising him that you believe he has rented to dangerous tenants and if there is any damage you will hold the landlord personally responsible for allowing a known hazard to remain on his property would be good. If an owner, it's possible that a complaint to the bank holding the mortgage would have some effect in that there may be a mortgage clause prohibiting dangerous activities. Sounds like a letter from a lawyer to them warning them that she believes they are creating a nuisance and threat wouldn't do much good if they have had problems before, but may be a nuisance suit or hazardout conditions suit would be a possibility. Where serious issues of personal safety are involved, I do suggest you get the government agencies and a lawyer involved pronto (and take some videotape of the dogs, the enclosures, etc. as a baseline reference and in the event you have to show it to a judge).

We have already given you two funerals, yet you insist on still being alive. And you complain about Bilbo! If you die a third time, mauled by malicious, mangy mutts, my vote is to strap you in a wheel chair and cover you nicely with a pretty quilt.

If anyone asks why you look funny... "poor momma. She just took her meds and they knock her right out."

We'll wheel you to a remote corner of a Wal-Mart and forget to leave with you.

Or if Gaugie insists ~ a K-Mart ~ in the Martha Stewart section.

Penni, I'd carry a 50,000 volt shocker with me if I had dogs like that in the neighborhood that I was worried about. I've sprayed big dogs with the pepper spray we use (which is nasty, nasty stuff), but it doesn't always stop a really big dog, or one that's intent on biting. Other than that, get a .45 and learn to aim it.

Rambi - several thoughts re really obnoxious dogs.....

The people who own the dogs are possibly worse trouble than the dogs. You may want to substitute "probably" for "possibly".

ANY complaint about the dogs automatically elevates you on list of usual suspects should something "happen to" the dogs.

If the people paid cash for the house, it is possible they can afford a lawyer who's meaner than your lawyer.

FWIW, a sub-sonic round fired from a .22 rifle probably makes no more noise than a bb gun. Just in case the noise bothers you when you go out in the county and shoot rusty beer cans at close range.....
