Steve - RE: Agreed. But noone will care that INTC's last generation chip is slightly behind latest iterations of the Athlon cos AMD will have nothing to challenge P4 with RDRAM."

Do you know how fast the P4 is?

Do you know how fast an Athlon with a 266MHz fsb and PC2100 DDR SDRAM is?

If not, what makes you sure "AMD will have nothing to challenge P4 with RDRAM."

"Then Intel will launch Timna with RDRAM to trounce the Athlon in the budget category."

Dream on, DRDRAM is still too expensive the ultra low-end PC market. Timna comes with a PC133 "translator" to make it price competitive. Duron smothers Celeron. What makes you think Timna will be 20% faster than Celeron at the same clock speed? And if you do think Timna is a lot faster than Celeron, why is Intel continuing to make the Celeron next year?

RE:"Then Intel will launch Timna with RDRAM to trounce the Athlon in the budget category. "

Are you aware that Intel delayed Timna for at least 8 months so they could port it to SDRAM because Rambus was too expensive? In this game, because of moving targets, a delay like that can be as good as a cancelation. If you think about it...Timna could very well be DOA...Intel would be best served to can it now, IMHO...

Steve,

Nice call:

But noone will care that INTC's last generation chip is slightly behind latest iterations of the Athlon cos AMD will have nothing to challenge P4 with RDRAM. Then Intel will launch Timna with RDRAM to trounce the Athlon in the budget category.
