Magnet Schools have been big in St. Louis for years. They are popular in the city (where regular public schools suck).

"ever heard of "Magnet Schools" ?? Sure, its similar to a charter school. The term magnet refers to a school that draws students with a particular interest or need, Bilingual schools, for example, around here (Colorado)are magnet schools. It can also be high schools that have a program that emphasises something particular like "High Tech" or "International Baccalaureate." Such schools accept students from outside their usual geographic restrictions without a tuition hit. Some of these are a direct result of successful charter schools.
