Tech, I invested in SanDisk initially in April of 1998 based purely on the prospects of digital photography. I thought the market for removable flash from this application alone would be immense. I still feel that way. I had no clue what MP3 was at that time. In December of 1998 I bought a Pontis MP3 player mostly out of curiosity. It has dual MMC slots and came with 2 eight megabyte MMC cards capable of storing 16 minutes of music. I ripped and copied 4 MP3 songs to the cards. The sound quality is impressive. It took me all of 3 seconds to be convinced that MP3 was for real and that a revolution was in the making. MP3 is quite suitable for mobile applications. Since then I bought 2 MP3 players for my wife's niece and nephew. They are in their mid- to late teens and they simply can't get enough of this stuff. Now I have a totally different opinion on SNDK's prospects. I believe that eventually the MP3 market will dwarf the digital camera market with respect to consumer flash card consumption. We just haven't hit the density sweet spot or the magical price target that will trigger insatiable consumer demand. Ausdauer
