OT (but if you can post to this board, you should read it)

I was just about to post this to the INSP thread, the current dialog was getting to me; but, decided to run this by you guys (ladies, remember I'm from Maine and we say "you guys" meaning "you'll").

Please take this as an attempt to start a dialog...(it is not meant to be offensive to anyone, and should you take exception to my idea...please state your objections either here on via email...as I don't know all nor do I see all..and often times speak before thinking...)

Okay..

I propose we have the SI Gods incorporate another function on these boards....one that automatically restricts posts to any individual on a board that has been ignored by more than 75% of the board members that have the ability to post messages to that board.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to restrict anyone from giving their two cents...especially negative comments that are backed by facts and opinions (hopefully it'll help many people from making a bad investment choice); however, when posters attempt to provide misleading information (regardless of the purpose..hyping included) I believe that the poster has gone beyond their rights in "freedom of speech" and should be stopped.

For instance, what do you think would happen to the person that yells "FIRE" in the theater and in the rush to exit the theater one or two people are trampled to death. One might argue that the person has the freedom to say whatever he or she wants, but in reality that person is most probably looking at jail time.

I believe that the members that just hit the "Ignor" button are doing the other "new" readers of that board a disservice in that a person that posts false or misleading information may sway one way or another that person's actions...yet those that have pressed the "Ignor" button do not respond to the misinformation because they haven't read the intentionally misleading post and the "newbie" remains uninformed. That's the main reason why I don't like the "Ignor" button..it is great for the one that recognizes a poster for what he/she is, but again, does nothing for the newbie...

I suggest SI poll it's readers and/or provide the owner of the board to make their own choice as to whether or not to implement this type of functionality. Is this restrictive..not really..unless you are the one that is intentionally trying to mislead....I would bet that most want to hear both good and bad so that he/she can make the most informed decision...even opinions are good...if one considers the source....

anyhow just a thought any suggestions/comments...can this type of thing fly...

Hi, Redneck. I see MetaCrawler was restored to the top of the Home Page, thanks to you...Cynical thought for the day: Just another bloody Friday for The Street, courtesy of OPEC and members in appreciation and gratitude for rescuing their oil fields from the clutches of Saddam.
