That leads to feudalism. Can't you see they want to maximize tax revenues so they have the power? Yes, I can see it clearly. But I also see that you don't have a great nation with a weak central government. What you would get is a lot of factions and a country run by multinational corporations who have no interest in your or my well being. I know a lot of my tax money is wasted, I don't like it. It happens just as much at the local level as at the national (our city built a convention center too small for conventions with no parking, they would have been better to build a reasonable one, or none at all). That is the area where our efforts should be focused, not on hamstringing the government so it can't do anything well .. because pork will always be the first priority. With Clinton and Gore, most of the people buying in only want something from them. You sure don't understand the politics of special interest. It has nothing to do with Clinton and Gore, it has everything to do with weak campaign finance and regulation under the guise of free-speech. If you think Bush or Cheney don't consider the interests of their contributers then you are stupid as a post. They want wealth transfer or some benefits they feel the leader can supply. A hand up, not a hand out was the operative phrase I think. I got through school by sitting in the food stamp office once a month for my rations. I have no shame in applying for every program I am eligible for, and in return I have suceeded and paid back tenfold for every government dollar I received. There's luck as well as talent there, and so I realize that not every investment in the poor will pay off. I rather like the welfare reforms undertaken by the Clinton administration but I also think that any person showing up in the welfare office saying "I'm hungry" should get food stamps first and then counseling. The last thing this country needs is a bunch of libertarians running around saying I want only those services I feel like paying for today, because they won't want anything until they need it and it won't be there.
