Then AMD would have no trouble producing much more than the measly 3.6 Million Athlons they are expecting in Q3 from 2 huge fabs. An embarrassingly poor number. In fact, at 90% yield on that large a die, AMD would have far and away the best yields in the world, except for maybe Intel..

90% or no, two things are clear: AMD is making volumes of a great chip, and the infrastructure support sucks. AMD's guidance is limited by chipset production, pure and simple. AMD made a decision to outsource such parts, and with hindsight it was a poor one. But this is the the only thing standing between AMD and the clear blue sky.

So Kumar is expecting big 2H 2001 upside from Itanium? Is this upside from 800MHz to 900MHz?

I have a prediction- Itanium will not be released unless it is running faster than the highest clocked Celeron.
