What would you do after viewing the rack

Well, I certainly don't fault Galileo. It is hard to say, what one would do when truly surrounded by such madmen, and when not enjoying any rights to ones life or mind.

Giordano Bruno pushed the proffered cross away contemptuously, and allowed himself to be burnt at the stake rather than barter his life in exchange for trampling on truth and human dignity. I think the choice one makes would be an indication as to whether the victim is a philosopher or a scientist! A scientist is concerned mainly with observable facts, verifiable data, experiments capable of replication; Hence, he would have no statement to make in allowing his own murder. To the philosopher, on the other hand--death may be just another syllogism. <ggg>

(of course, I'm saying this tongue in cheek.)
