Bush had a big lead before the conventions because Gore had not won over his base yet. Contrary to spin, the DemocRAT convention wasn't the smashing success it has been made out to be. He merely solidified his base, nobody new came on board.

The Battleground Poll, which is done by a Democratic and a Republican pollster in tandem, shows Bush ahead. But mainly, we have discussed it to death: they are statistically tied, and Gore should be doing better as the veep, and about a quarter of people could go either way by election day...........
