The magnet schools here are funded the same as the mainstream public schools (no extra charges). The magnet schools are having good results in academic achievement. They are also very successful, in that the mainstream schools weren't working for the kids who attend the magnets. It makes a lot more sense than constantly trying to infuse more and more stuff in to the mainstream curriculum that are a distraction to the mainstream kids.

Re Florida School System ..

I kid got shot and killed at the Junior High I went to (down in south Florida). Now they have made it into a fortress, kind of like going to school in the Gulag.
