You really have a jaundiced view of people. The Colonel has probably slugged through more muddy trenches carrying a rifle than you or I can imagine. How do you think a person reaches the position of Colonel anyway? The lead men through exercises (real and practice) which push them to endurance levels your holier-than-thou back braking union environment can't imagine.
