Thomas, RE: Linux is totally open and anyone can create/copy/clone a distribution. Linux support can be given by any free lancer.

True.

But a network can also be put together and supported by many a free lancer. That doesn't stop Andersen or EDS from making a whole heck of a lot of money doing the same thing.

A business who wants to put in an OS with good software to serve their files to employees, sell product and service customers over any network will still pay dollars to get any OS set up and the software that runs on it too. Just because you can get the source code does not mean that running an IT department suddenly stopped costing you money.

If you take a serious look at the Unixes, they are not going away. Once a software customer is hooked with a system he the barb bites deep. Perhaps Linux has no barb. But if one wants to support real businesses you can bet your last farthing that just about any OS starts costing about the same money out of pocket. The difference lies in the "extensibility" of the solutions. Will your software perform and make you money or will it give you headaches as time goes by? I would say the internet is proof positive that Linux is a business solution. To say you could have done it in MS Windows is just laughable. European and American Business will sit up and take notice. Be there when they do and catch the wave.
