Re: there are currently 9 Intel fabs producing logic devices

I won't push this, if all 9 had been making nothing but 40 million X86 CPUs per quarter, Intel's yields would have been terrible, but they certainly aren't that bad.

The same thing can be said for AMD's 1.25 FABs making around 7 million X86 CPUs.

It's largely a black box, but Sanders has indicated something like 60% yields of final parts at AMD. No one at Intel will go on record, but there has had to be a re-allocation of FAB space planned for flash in Israel and some .25 lines were restarted in a period when the rate of increase in PCs shipped was lower than the historical norm.

Poor planning or poor yields? We don't know. But I think there is more reason to be suspicious of Intel yields over the past year than AMD yields.

Regards,

Dan

Elmer,

Re: Intel's Fabs

Wasn't there a Fab in Costa Rica and another in Malaysia, or are these just for packaging?
