Thanks for the reference- it is nice to get a link to a simple presentation instead of
the details, since you only have so much time to read.

Of course, the simulations in the link you mentioned were of 15 workstations at 200
m. separation with fixed packet size. Basically, an ideal office simulation, not a
WAN, and I know a lot of offices with more workstations and longer distance
separations and variable packet size. Nevertheless, I should never criticize a first cut
simulation; first order guess are always useful.

Good luck with the IEEE MAC work. My own committee knowlege has been in higher
layer protocols, so I'm not aware of the hot issues closer to where "the fiber meets the
road", or in this case, where the air meets the road, unless there is some vendor firestorm. Keep us informed.

I did go to your referenced IEEE site, and there are some useful tutorials on 802.11
there as well that I can recommend. One question: I understood MAC was a
general protocol independent of the physical layer, and is used in 10G and HFC as
well as wireless; but 802.11 seems to focus on wireless. Is there one MAC or many
MAC flavors or many different MACs? Which is the leader?
