Harry,

We have lots of coal and oil shale, but the social costs associated with them are huge. I worked on oil shale development under Carter (remember MEOW?) in the western slope of Colorado, and realized that it would have destroyed much of the state. Too high a price to pay.

The switch to the hydrogen economy could be completed in 10 years according to Amory Lovins at the Rocky Mountain Institute...Amory has been a visionary in this area for 20+ years...Read his book Natural Capitalism...excellent...also provides some insight into where one might do some investing...if AMD and INTC are looking forward as to what can be done with semiconductor fabrication expertise that would be dramatically more profitable that computer chips I hope they are thinking about some of the future nanotechnologies and systems-on-a-chip concepts (power systems)....JBK
