So tell your mother to do this next time, you whiny brat.
Besides, I thought it was important people know when he got his first tooth.

Something about your post just reminded me of my first and possibly last starring role in a school production... I think our class recited a poem for a Christmas pageant and I ended up with the lion's share of the lines to deliver... probably because I was one of the only kids who could remember them...

On the afternoon of our performance, I carried out my appointed deed, but just as I finished, my youngest brother...then about 4 years old, bleated shrilly from somewhere in the darkness of the auditorium,

"That's my sister up there!!!!!!!"

uhm.....I think that might have been the last "public appearance" that I ever made... (-:

Columbus Day Drama:

Instructions to nihil: March up to the front of the stage, plant the banner with the cross and say loud and slow "I claim this land for Spain!"

nihil: like the picture in the book?

teacher: yes

nihil: you mean I draw my sword and brandish it above my head?

teach: no, you've already got the banner in your right hand, you can't handle a sword too.

nihil: I'm left handed.

teach: no, just hold the banner.

nihil: I could change hands. It would be more historically accurate.

teach: no, just hold the banner and say "I claim this land for Spain!

nihil: [silence -- not necessarily implying consent.]

Day of play: Columbus [nihil] marches on stage, leading his henchmen, bearing the banner with a cross. He plants the banner with his right hand. Reaches over with his left hand and holds it in place, and then with his right hand, like in the picture in the book, draws his sword and brandishes it:
"I claim this land for Spain!" [applause]

"I breathe. I eat. It all takes time." Delivered with that infuriating adolescent tone of patience with a world so much slower than one's own dazzling wit.

Perfect.

Will there be a cameo to highlight Backlicking Boy's special talent?
