We had a play every year at my elementary school. The
music teacher called them operettas. I remember her
coming into my first grade class and testing us for parts.
One of the tests involved skipping down the center aisle
of the classroom. Having two left feet at skipping and
being a solid 'C' student in music, I was outfitted in
a maroon shirt and matching shorts, with the shirt covered
with paper leaves that had been colored with crayons.
Alas, I was perfectly cast as a tree.

Kerhonk, kerhonk. The Canadas are passing now. Geese are building flocks. The grackles are flying out from their roosts in town in flocks 100 yards wide and a mile or two long. Sounds like a bunch of bad valves going by.

Saw the yellow leaves last week and the first red ones today. 26 tonight, hope the toads and snakes find some warm spots.
