We'll see how much bipartisan support remains in the Senate for the IRA Overhaul/Pension
Deception Bill after the AARP and AFL-CIO send letters to every senator saying "Just Vote No." This is a typical GOP sleaze tactic: Muddle up a decent piece of legislation (IRA overhaul) by sticking in the cash-balance pension provision and then strike out at lawmakers that vote no on this heinous piece of legislation.

It also should be pointed out that individual workers, i.e., those at IBM, are presently challenging unilateral moves from defined benefits plans to cash-balance plans in the courts and in federal regulatory agencies.

Bottom line: This is another example of how corporate greedy weasels have Republican lawmakers in their hip pocket. This is another example of why organized labor is solidly behind Al Gore in this election.
