fwiw: mu is upgraded by analysts with a price target of 120.at first look that sounds bad for rmbs. i think not . there is 2 senarios: 1. the upgrade is legit and the analysts think mu will settle with rmbs and get on with it's business.2. it it a head fake to unload their firms stock in anticipation of a court battle with rmbs. of course the third reason is the one they give, but who belives in the tooth fairy? rocky

From YAHOO..... "Anand's i820 benchmarks Bogus?"

Gene Parrott they are talking about you...

Anand's i820 benchmarks Bogus?

Thanks to Gene Parrot on the SI thread for summarizing recent AMD760 benchmarks at anandtech.com.
Gene's post is at:

Message 14401800

These benchmarks showed the i820+RDRAM to be a a serious disadvantage to DDR (PC1600) and PC133 SDRAM.
Something seemed a bit odd, however, so I took that trouble to pull up previous Anandtech benchmarks on the i820 from
here:

anandtech.com

and here:

anandtech.com

I also threw in some benchmarks from Tom Pabst, that pro-DDR guy, on the i820 and i840.

tomshardware.com

All tests are on 1GHz platforms.

Some interesting results (see key below).

Benchmark/DDR 1600/PC800/Ai820/TPi820/TPi840

CC: 36.2 / 27.3 / 33.7
S2K: 195 / 179 / 191 / 185 /195
Q3A: 122.1 / 114.4 / 145.6* / 147 /149
UT: 79.5 / 71.6 / 72.8* / /
EXP: 107.9 / 93.7 / 101.9 / 97.5 /101.8
IME: 129 / 73 /NA/NA/NA
INS: 123 / 111 /NA/NA/NA
IAP: 91 / 64 /NA/NA/NA
IVS: 69 / 107 /NA/NA/NA
I-Stream:
Mem BW: 487 / 352 /NA/NA/NA
FPU: 596 / 468 /NA/NA/NA

Very INTERESTING! Looks like Anand took one for the AMD team! Notice that Anand had to use a bunch of
non-standard benchmarks because the one's that he and Tommy usually use--like SpecPerf 3D series, WOULD NOT
RUN on the DDR system.

*Anand's DDR tests use a 3DFX Voodoo-5 video card. Other benchmarks use Nvidia GTS-2, except where noted.

Gene. Can you please show me benchmarks of the PC133 and 820 which correspond to the benchmarks that Anand came up with? Please do cause I have here from many different sources numbers that can not duplicate Anand's numbers. So something was very wrong with Anand's setup (which does not surprise me) since his results are not duplicated with other results of PC133 and RDRAM tests. Cause after all, the 820 and PC133 platforms have been out for quite a long time and nobody has ever been able to show numbers with such variation as the ones from Anand. Even Intel's own site that has been used by many AMDroids to point out that the i815 is faster than the i820, only shows a different of less than 1-2%. The only numbers that would make any sense to discuss is that the PC133 i815 even though with a 50% slower FSB and memory, beat the DDR system by a large margin in some tests and was neck and neck in the others.
