ajb, as one of the afternoon responders, I wouldn't say that I didn't think much of the announcement. But after looking up Cobalt's current products, I think projecting it as the vehicle for launching sledgehammer into the server space is a bit, uh, euphoric.

Cobalt may have a good product, and it does have an AMD processor, but it sounds much more like a cheap PC for the server space than something that needs 64 bit addressing. And I fear that Sun buying Cobalt makes it less likely for Cobalt to move up to larger scale servers. One thing I noticed is that the Cobalt product uses 35 watts, which is, er, cool. It's a positive for AMD, no doubt, but it's not like getting Dell signed up or something.
