Sylvester80, re; Intel will make P4 chips as fast and as many as they can make.
IMO, Intel will schedule P4 production to forecast demand. (Just as with the other products). For a new product they may build some inventory in excess of demand, but the market determines the production levels. Demand from the likes of Dell, IBM and Compaq will weigh heavily on production plans. If the product is initially targeted mainly at work stations, (which I think is the case), we're looking at 100's of thousands per quarter for the start-up ramp. I still think P4 will ship <10 Million units in 2001.
Note that McComas forescast ~200,000 for Q4, and ~2 million for fist half.,

``Intel will only ship a couple of 100,000 units of the Pentium 4 during this year,'' McComas said. ``By next year, Intel will ship a couple of million during the first half.''
