And Dell's upgrade price for 2GB/8 RIMM's is $5,800.00.
That's a staggering number to contemplate.

Gene, <And Dell's upgrade price for 2GB/8 RIMM's is $5,800.00. That's a staggering number to contemplate.>

Just for comparison: For Dell's PowerEdge 8450 enterprise server, the price of upgrading from 1 GB to 2 GB of PC100 SDRAM is $5,934.00.

Is that for PC600 or PC800 RIMMs. Price for PC800 upgrade was almost $6,100 yesterday. If it's for PC800, there has been 5% price decrease today.

Gene,
Looking at Dell's web site I see the following. 1Gb ECC PC800 (4 sticks) = $2,770. 2 of those for 8 sticks will make 2Gb for $5540. On the other hand, you can get the system with the least memory and buy the same Samsung brand name 256Mb PC800 ECC sticks for $605 from the link below for $605x8=$4840 and save $700 over the Dell price:

shopper.cnet.com

Now, let's compare that to SDRAM PC133 ECC 256Mb sticks from Crucial: crucial.com

SDRAM PC133 ECC 256Mb CL2 = $450 x 8 = $3600.
