Zeev> I believe that even in Japan only a small minority of stations are equipped to broadcast HDTV.

HDTV is avail everywhere in Japan, it has been that way for more than 10 years. But sales of the HDTV's isn't that huge.

Just recently Japan changed over it's HDTV system from analog to digital which really screwed things up.

Zeev or anyone,
How would you protect a long position in the event of a loss in one of the pending lawsuits?

Buy short-term puts? Roll them over?

Zeev, that my change soon with the Federal Mandate of only Digital TV broadcasting by 2006. I don't know enough about the subject, but I do have one question which is, Can all TV's today receive and play digital HDTV signals, or are the broadcasting companies currently sending digital signals along with analog signals to allow all TV's to work (dual signaling)?

hi zeev,
i believe HDTV roll-out is going quite strong in japan.

i read yesterday that CBS is about to begin hdtv signals in the USA, well ahead of schedule.

it is the combo that is important here.
HDTV + DVD + set-top boxes(cable and satellite).

each individual device with RDRAM inside.

most TVs are sold in the last 1/2 of the year.
you can track tv and dvd sales in the USA at the link.

i have seen estimates that over 60 million interactive set top boxes will be rolled out over the next 2-3 years across N America. in addition to cable and satellite operator distribution, shortly you will be able to buy them in stores.

2-way cable installation was completed in my area a few weeks ago...new set top box distribution may have already started. i'll check on that today.
