Castro is not an elder statesman, he is a tyrant. We deal with China because we have to, we can afford to stand aloof from Cuba. I am not very worried about a Nuclear Holocaust. Currently, the fear is mainly of terrorists using weapons of mass destruction. Although plutonium bombs are terrifying, anthrax will do. Of course, there needs to be international cooperation, but mainly in the area of law enforcement. I am heartened by cooperation between the FBI and the Russian internal security bureau in the last couple of years. I do not think that the UN will replace NATO, it is more likely that NATO will replace the UN, as a nucleus of democratic states.
