<Have you seen anybody using their G* phone? I realize that Idaho is rural and therefore you don't necessarily "run into" folks talking on their sat phone.>

I haven't yet but I am not out in the hinterlands all that much. I am aware of a dude ranch on the Salmon River that is using the phone extensively and I know others are starting to also. I am hoping to speak with the operators of this ranch (The Polly Bemis) next week for a testimonial to put on the web page. One of the fires came very close to the property and I am told the phone was used extensively to coordinate a possible rescue. They use it routinely now I am told.

There are a lot of cabins scattered around the mountains in Idaho with no cell or phone service. I have a strong feeling many of them will be served by G* by next summer.

When I was at mountain lakes last summer (unfortunetely only about 3 times) I would pull the phone out whenever other hikers or fishermen were around. That always generated some discussion. One time a forest ranger was there and said "wow, I need one of those!" That is the good news. The bad news is that he had never heard of it. That was early July so maybe that has changed.

Interesting comments on the car kit pricing. IR said that pricing was not a deterrant for those who really need it. It is for me but I don't need it. I asked the dealer today who sold the most car kits if they felt pricing was a factor and surprisingly to me, they said no. It fit the customer's needs so they bought it. Hmmm, maybe these folks do know what they are doing.

Two of the dealers pushed the $1,199 plan as opposed to the $699 with the two year comitment. I found that interesting. I asked if they did that because they weren't sure if G* would be around in two years and they said no, it was just the higher monthly fee that bothered them. I said isn't that a better deal for someone who needs the phone and will use it? You save $500 up front and get cheaper minutes. Guess what it all comes down to? The dealers make a little more by selling the higher priced phones. Another little flaw in the grand marketing scheme but there is progress.
