Maybe Lynne should have been Dubya's choice. She certainly has a lot more life in her than Big-Time Dick. From purely a "horse-race" perspective, I just don't think it was a good choice. Cheney is bad at being negative, and yet he has to carry that load for Bush. He looks caustic and sour. He brings defense and national security experience to the table at a time when the electorate doesn't give a damn about those issues. And he has these windfalls from his Big Oil stock options to deal with at a time when Americans feel like they're being robbed blind at the gas pump. Plus, he doesn't bother to vote for 5 or six years because he was too busy with work. (I loved his explanation though that they were just school and local elections. What hypocrisy from someone whose running mate is prescribing local control of government and schools as the salve to all our problems.) Big Time is a big net loss.
