AMD's pre-warn history suggested distinctive trends: 1. AMD pre-warns initially, then follows up with a more definative warning if the nature of the short-fall is internal and production related. 2. AMD pre-warns later in the quarter in question if the short-fall caused by external and market conditions See below for AMD pre-warn samples. Bottom line: AMD's previous guidances on Q3 may very well be placed on the hope that the larget sales will occur in September, particularly, the last two weeks of September. There is a very realistic chance that due to Intel's all out efforts to make its ugly Q3 less ugly in numbers by offering hard to refuse deals to OEMs. Thus, AMD is at the moment less certain whether they will meet the guidance of 7 million total and 3.6 million Athlons respectively for Q3. Remember, tomorrow is just 9/22 and in all fairness, AMD may not know their numbers while they are pushing their sales fiercely to box makers. The end results: 1. They may still make the numbers but they do not know tomorrow, thus no guidance repeated. 2. They can not meet their guidance, and we shold hear from that pre-warning no later than next Tuesday.Market condition related warning: _________________________________www1.amd.com SUNNYVALE, CA--June 23, 1999 -- AMD today announced that it will report an operating loss in the range of $200 million for the quarter ending June 27, 1999, due to a sharp decline in average selling prices for its AMD-K6® processor family and lower unit shipmentsInternal and production related warnings: _________________________________________www1.amd.com SUNNYVALE, CA --February 04, 1999 -- AMD announced today that, based on a re-assessment of competitive conditions, the company could incur an operating loss in the current quarter.www1.amd.com SUNNYVALE, CA --March 08, 1999 -- Atiq Raza, AMD co-chief operating officer and chief technical officer, said today that the company will fall short of its goal of shipping 5.5 million units of AMD-K6® family processors in the current quarter.
