AMD won't prewarn as the drastic price cut has had a hockey stick effect gaining mkt shr at the expense of INTC. Especially for the Europe's price elasticity mkt, INTC brand doesn't matter, European just went for the best bang for the buck. The latest round of price reduction has hurt INTC dearly while AMD has learned to make do w/ much lower GM.

CPQ has made some huge order in Sept. for Athlon & Duron. AMD will at least meet the 3.6 MM unit shipment for Athlon, 7 MM overall. The ASP might be < $100. Flash rev is enormous. IMHO, flash will exceed 10% rev growth sequentially.

Yougang,

Thank you for that summary. IIRC, there has only been one positive pre-announcement in the past few years. That was where Jerry was speaking at a Goldman-Sach's conference last Feb 11 which would have been more in the middle of the quarter and due to market conditions, but one example sure doesn't make a trend for positive announcements.

The need for a yet another positive reiteration may be moot if the stock price continues up as it has opened.

Yougang,

Thus, AMD is at the moment less certain whether they will meet the guidance of 7 million total and 3.6 million Athlons respectively for Q3.

With the huge drip off of K6-2 systems for sale at retail in Q3, I think there is zero percent chance that AMD will make the 7 million unit target. I think 6.2 is more likely. But, the Athlon number is much more important, as it represents the future. Still, I don't think they will make that number either. I hope to eat these words.

Pravin.
