<* Foundry/Analog Update -- Is Intel losing share to Taiwan, Inc.?
Intel pre-announcement likely to increase investor concerns and confusion regarding semiconductor demand We believe foundries are actually benefiting as their customers take share from Intel. >

I am guessing this guy is talking about AMD and VIA chipsets. I would be nervous if I am VIA. With lot of spare capacity, Intel should get back into the chipset business with a vengence in a couple of months. With the performance offered by 815, VIA would have a tough time competing unless the DDR chipset goes into production quickly.

This also applies to AMD to a certain extent: Intel is probably dramatically increasing Willamette wafer starts as we chat. If Q4 does not pickup substantially from Q3, Intel will have plenty of spare capacity to ramp in Q4.

Even with a $100 or $200 system level cost disadvantage compared to Athlon/Mustang, P4 has a better chance of making ASPs (compared to PIII). It will be interesting to see if Intel's Gross Margins stay above 60% for Q4.

Maverick:

$8.4 billion market cap for a company that will show profits of $1 billion this year and whose ASP's and number of units shipped are increasing rapidly is absurb by any valuation measurement!!!
