MUNICH, Germany--Infineon Technologies, Europe's No. 3 chipmaker, said it expects sales growth this quarter to exceed that of the semiconductor industry overall.

The chipmaking arm of Siemens made the forecast a day after Intel, the world's largest computer-chip maker, warned of weak demand in Europe and lower-than-expected sales. Infineon expects to outperform the industry and turn in record profit in the fourth quarter, said chief executive Ulrich Schumacher.
"We see extremely strong growth before us," Schumacher said in an interview. "It's an absurd discussion. There's no slowdown at all."

RE:"Unlike his opponent, Gore actually has a long term energy strategy."

Yes, higher gas prices...

Do you agree with Clintons tapping the strategic oil reserve?
I thought that was for things like WAR?
You didn't get an invite to sleep over at the White Motel 6?
You won't get one from Gore either, it's a one way street I'm afraid...

Jim

Scumbria: Gore also actually knows something about foreign policy.. Specifically for us Canucks.. it was rather amusing about 6 months to a year ago now when Rick Mercer of the popular satire show up here called "This Hour Has 22 minutes" posed as a reporter at one of the Republican get-togethers and asked Bush whether he could comment on Canada's Prime Minister Jean Poutine publicly endorsing Mr Bush in the election (Hint: Jean Chretien is the real name of the PM, and poutine is a fancy french word for a snack made up of fries, cheese and gravy) to which Mr Bush publicly stated he was grateful for Prime Minister Poutine's support without batting an eye. Mercer, not quite believing that Bush had actually taken him seriously.. decided to ask him a 2nd time later for a comment on Prime Minister Poutine's support to which again Bush publicly thanked the Prime Minister for doing so.. it was absolutely hilarious to watch.. made front-line news across Canada.. and even got mentioned in the WSJ and the CBS Nightly News.

You'll find the majority of Canadians believe Mr Gore would be a lot more friendly and knowledgeable about Canada and Canadian interests ;)

Either way, it's not as clever a move as Greenspan holding interest rates up until after the 1994 congressional elections.

Come on, don't rewrite history.
host.cnbc.com

AG was just raising rates back to normal after having them to near record lows.

As for energy policy, It's an easy one. Just call up our friends in the gulf (In OPEC, the Saudi's call the shots) and tell them we are serious about wanting oil prices under $30 bucks a barrel. We used to have a bit of clout down there.

Just to play into some liberal paranoia, I wouldn't be surprised if the current high prices were intended in part to help get W elected. They did really like his father, and they want us to pressure Israel in the Peace negotiations. Either way, I'll bet money oil prices go down after the election. It's not like the oil sheiks want to kill the stock market- What do you think they do with all that oil money anyway?

You used to be a geologist? Did you know any of the "oil supply is running out" doomsayers?

Scumbria,

Unlike his opponent, Gore actually has a long term energy strategy.

Cheap oil until the election, forget national security, forget long term energy conservation.

But then, I have not heard anyone accusing Gore for being a man of principle. Just do what's convenient TODAY. Say whatever you need to. Lie if you must.
