Sylvester80, re: where the i820 sold millions of PCs
Do you have link, or is that an opinion?
I calculate total RDRAM shipments in 1H'00 were ~10 million units. I've posted the analysis before. (Basically, Samsung claims to have shipped their 10 millionth RDRAM at the end of the first half, cumulative since production started last year. They also claim to have shipped ~80% of units). I also assume no i820's in ‘99.
Based on IDC numbers, RDRAM work stations in 1H'00 shipped ~470K units. (i820/i840). Consider that DELL, (who shipped ~200K WS's in 1H), uses the i840 in two of the three WS products. Anyway, I get ~5 - 7 million RDRAM's for WS's.
How many additional boxes do 3 - 5 million RDRAM's support?
Even throwing in Q3, I doubt that "the i820 sold millions of PC's."
