Lots of people don't accept preordination anymore. It's a bitter pill to swallow if you really think about it. For a scientist it makes a certain amount of sense- since the laws of cause and effect control experiments. But it does seem to eliminate the need for prayer- unless you can work out that the preordained and selected folks not only do good works but also pray, because they are preordained to do so. Then by prayer you might be reinforcing your preordained- ness.
