Do you ever videotape tv shows?
Copies of songs from Napster for your own listening pleasure are really no different than tape recording a song from a radio.
Sony sells millions of Cd and tape decks every year what do you think they are being used for?
CD burners are the hottest item around. Do you think every one uses them for backup.
You talk about ethical. Its no less or more ethical to use Napster than to tape a movie or a song or video record anything, of course not. How many of us go to DisneyWOrld and videotape Mickey or the parade or the Magic castle. We do not pay to reshow those videos.
Non commercial consumer copying is recognized as fair use under commonlaw theory and doctrines and under the Supreme Court's criteria.
The Audio home Recording act says that non comercial recording by consumers is lawful.
In 1984 Universal sued Sony re: Video recorders and Universal lost so there already is precedent.
Enough about the law, I am not a lawyer but have read a little on this..
Napster will be a exciting portal with millions of hits a day how do we invest in it??And if they stop Napster they will never stop Gnutella which was designed not to be stopped.
