If the argument is that Napster is like a web hosting company that isn't responsible for the content of the web sites that people put up, then it might get away with a little bit. But knowingly putting up copyrighted material on one's website is illegal, and so the people using Napster to distribute copyrighted music are doing something illegal. If Napster is knowingly facilitating this, they are a party and should also be made to reimburse the artistes and their agents for each download of a song.

They dont get paid when you listen to your car radio.

This is incorrect. Artists absolutely receive a royalty payment when their song is played on the radio.

Still apples to oranges.

And I wasn't talking about Microsoft. I tend to think that MSFT would have grown to its current level of dominance without the use of monopolistic predatory practices through the ineptitude of their competitors, however, I do believe that some of their business practices violated written law.

My personal belief is that the free market would have eventually corrected the MSFT problem and that government involvement was not necessary. I also believe that dominant market share is not a sufficient enough reason for the government to look askance at a company.

LOL...we finally see eye to eye on something <g>

PS
Tom, you are "FEEDING" the recording industry and the distribution chain, then a tiny bit goes to the artists. Technology can let the artists past all the money grabbers in the chain.

Tom, get that halo off your head <g>
