Politics and oil. The SPR release seems to have brought out the right wing extremist Clinton haters.

<<Ironic in the extreme that, at least for the very short term, OPEC is playing for US market share vs 2 dishonest and corrupt politicians in effect embezzling oil from their own countrys strategic petroleum reserve to try and win an election.

Bizarre!>>

A more realistic/rational view might be that this was a clever political maneuver that will turn out to be good for our nation.

I'm an independent minded, moderate republican (a rare breed). To me the appealing aspect here is that the SPR will be "increased" as the net result of this action, by selling 30 MM bl of crude now and getting back more later for less per barrel. It has already brought down the price of crude and our stocks. We may not like that, but it is good for the country. And it might well turn out to be good for our stocks as well - in the longer term by sustaining demand.

Clinton has once again outsmarted the republicans. Too bad that Dubya is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He just doesn't seem to be able to think quick/well enough for the big leagues. His dad was ready, and was a good president.

Take care all. Winkman
