Precise Strengthens Relationship With EMC Corporation by Joining E-Infostructure Developers Program
Precise/Interpoint to be integrated with EMC's Symmetrix Enterprise Storage Systems
WESTWOOD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2000-- Precise Software Solutions, Ltd. (Nasdaq: PRSE - news; www.precise.com), the leader in boosting business efficiency through IT infrastructure performance management solutions, announced today that it has joined EMC Corporation's (NYSE: EMC - news) E-Infostructure Developers Program. Precise joins other selected partners that include such industry leaders as Oracle Corporation, SAP and Hewlett Packard.

The Precise/EMC relationship was formed in 1998 when a joint development project resulted in an OEM arrangement through which EMC began reselling Precise's technology in its product offerings. Subsequently, EMC has taken an investment position in Precise.

Now, membership in the E-Infostructure Developers Program will give Precise additional access to EMC's application programming interfaces (APIs) and technical assistance from the company's development labs. The next Precise product to leverage this program will be Precise/Interpoint(TM) which will provide customers with ERP performance management solutions for use with EMC Symmetrix Database Tuner (DB Tuner). DB Tuner, which was jointly developed with Precise, monitors, correlates, and identifies Oracle database performance problems in the application, storage, server, and the database to allow for proactive and reactive tuning.

``EMC is committed to providing customers with the best solutions to optimize performance in the IT infrastructure,'' said Roy Sanford, VP Alliances for EMC. ``By working with Precise as part of the E-Infostructure Development Program we can offer our customers a leading end-to-end performance management solution for ERP, both in Oracle Applications and SAP R/3® applications. The program is designed to meet our customers' needs through the integration of industry-leading solutions, such as Precise/Interpoint, into our product offerings.''

``We are thrilled to take this next step with EMC. We believe our integrated products create a unique solution that provides significant benefits to companies trying to manage performance across complex ERP environments. We look forward to working jointly with EMC to further develop our products and services as a complementary offering to EMC technology. This is an exciting new dimension to our very successful partnership,'' said Precise President and Chief Executive Officer Shimon Alon.

Precise/Interpoint is a unique solution for optimizing the performance of ERP applications including Oracle Applications and SAP R/3, running in an Oracle environment. Precise/Interpoint monitors the Oracle database, the database server, and the ERP application and correlates the results to detect system and application based bottlenecks, thereby significantly reducing the time spent identifying the sources of performance degradation. Using Precise/Interpoint, performance engineers can identify which ERP entities (e.g., transactions, users) are consuming the most resources. They can also drill down from the Oracle database to identify the problematic SQL statements, transactions, and database objects. The engineers can then track these problematic entities back to their points of origin within the ERP environment--to the specific ERP users, transactions, screens, reports, or user customizations and extensions. By optimizing the way ERP applications access the Oracle databases, Precise/Interpoint integrated with DBTuner will maximize the end-to-end management and performance of the entire Oracle environment and help organizations meet their business needs.
