<<There is a lot of lock-in with their products and I don't think they lose clients easily. Anyone have any numbers on this?>>

No numbers - just anecdotal and personal experience that PSFT has lock-in and is not getting replaced. However, the threat to PSFT is not replacement but rather disintermediation. New competitors in the HR space (ibenefits, ebenfits, ebenx, etc.) treat PSFT like a feeder system - simply a repository for HR data. Instead of controlling the repository, they aim to control the linkages and transactions to the e-commerce sources (health/life/dental insurance companies, financial companies, etc.)

Ironically, HR (typically not a trailblazer) has often been the driver behind many early corporate intranet initiatives to put internal corporate processes on the web (at least for info retrieval if not for transactions). Many web consultants advise their clients to try internally focused HR web projects as their first step toward web enabling the enterprise. PSFT still has an opportunity to usurp the new competitors by moving upstream from the repository and capturing the linkages and transactions.

Hopefully with their recent double they'll be able to afford their own copy. <g>
