but wouldn't be nice if one of the SI biotech gurus had a
connection there and reported to the board?

Wouldn't it be nice? I've spoken with Vogelstein once or twice regarding a SBIR grant, on which he was a consultant, at PharMingen.

So, how do I word it??.......

"Hi, Dr. V. My name is Rick. We've talked before re. an SBIR grant, but I'm now calling in the role of greedy investor. Yes, Principal Greedy Investor, or, as some refer to me, Principal Investor, Greedy. Got a minute?"

Would that work?

No, I'm afraid that "biotech gurus" remain biotech gurus by making sure that they don't do tacky stuff like that. Long-term, you're successful in this sector by not taking short cuts, and by not stretching anyone's principles.

It's a "lease to buy". IMO, that means that it's a piece of equipment that might sit around, gathering dust, in Baltimore. OTOH, it may be the hottest instrument known to science, for all I know.
