Bambs,

Two things. First this is the type of shot that causes problems..

Good luck with your "no risk CSCO investment"

That's like begging for an argument. So, well.... let's cool it...

As for the article. Telephone spending is the focus of the peice. And telco's are spending less on old world circuit switches than ever before but will be spending a little on new world IP telephony. IMO CSCO loses nothing and only gains by this move.

CSCO is far less exposed to tradional carrier business than the likes of NT and LU (which I also hold) so I don't think the impact should be that great here. I'll tell you what's funny though. SO many people talk about how CSCO doesn't have enough exposure or penetration into the telcos - suggesting that it's CSCO's weakness, yet when these same people site weakness in telco spending they suggest that it will impact CSCO. Funny - huh.?? <ggg>

Just one question though. How does consolidation reduce telco spending? I wonder how this fellow came to that conclusion. Ah well. He's entitled to his opinion.

Aha! You see, Bambs? We will train you yet! :)

BTW, I saw that article and many others on the telecom slowdown. That macro issue has me worried over all the others. If telecom spending slows down for a sustained period, then the whole market, not just Cisco, will suffer. Because this boom is largely Internet related. Without that buildout occurring at breakneck speed, Cisco and Nortel and all the rest of the hot stocks are in trouble.

Despite that, I think that any spending slowdown will be temporary. These companies have to spend to survive. We are in the middle of the biggest revolution since the industrial revolution. There will be hiccups, some worse than others, but my investing horizon is verrry long and I am confident Cisco will survive this hiccup as well.

Dear Bambs: YEAH, BUT:

"I've scaled out of my tel-tech positions except for Lucent and Cisco, and hold only two small telco positions, in Qwest and WorldCom. I think it's time to take profits where you have them in telecom, broadly defined. And to eat some losses, too, if you have them, before they get worse. It's not going to get better anytime soon"
