Judith,

Sorry to learn of the dead laptop. Thanks for continuing to put so much thought into the project.

I like the idea of your four guinea pigs (JDSU, NTAP, SEBL and ITWO) for the reasons you mentioned. You and I could could present a lot of good arguments to use a couple other companies instead of the ones you've selected, but no particular selection in my mind will be significantly better. My take is that unless someone convinces you of good reasons to choose other companies, they're as fine as any.

In addition to the metrics you mentioned, I'd still like to include most if not all of the qualitative metrics I highlighted in my post that come straight from Network to Net Worth. Though none of those companies enjoy the direct benefit of a network in the context of an AOL or a Gemstar, all of the companies certainly are impacted by the network effects.

Be aware that I'm going to be travelling for almost all of October and a few days in November and that prior to that I won't have the time to help out with the project. Your continued interest and perseverance regarding the project lead me to ask that you head up the project much as Chaz heads up his Project Hunt. I could have asked this of you privately, but I'm hoping that the added pressure of mentioning it publicly enhances the probability that you'll tell me what I want to hear. :)

If you can sign on a volunteer for each company -- notice that I'm already assuming you agree to taking over the project! :) -- that would be terrific. If that's not possible, keep Siebel in reserve for me and I'll begin working on that one in November. Naturally, if someone volunteers to do a report on Gemstar or another company that isn't one of your four guinea pigs, don't turn 'em down. :)

Are ya game?
