Yes, it is a difficult position to maintain. Although a flood of literature continues to emanate from scholarship every year, struggling to resolve the question of the historicity of Jesus--the case for a Jesus of the Gospels becomes increasingly difficult to support. As for either testament being the inerrant word, that is no longer considered sensible by serious scholars. The contradictions take on levels of absurdity. Only the severely biased and illogical would entertain such an idea today, and one could not consider their conclusions to emanate from scholarship.

Here is a link that summarises the whole issue in an inclusive manner. The facts are overwhelming. But believers will continue to believe. They don't require logic, and they don't need facts. Inspirational prose is their logic.
