Tony,

I think I gave pretty good reasons why I think Intel would be under pressure for some time to come.

Do you disagree with my 2 points? In particular, point 1?

You may call it doom and gloomers, but it's more like REALITY.

1. You are mostly correct about TI. "'95 Fall" took TI over 16 months to take off for only 1 1/2qrs. Then it fell again. It went sideline over 12 months if I remember correctly. Like you said TI did dump commodity DRAM, took DSPs and New Semi Up Cycle kicked in. The biggest cloud we are dealing with today is "Cycle." Are we or are we not at the end of cycle? I don't know. I hope not!

2. Apple and IBM took more than a few yrs to recover, rather it took 3~5 yrs. They are not the King/s on the street any more either.

Btw, I bought 40K worth of IBM in Feb, 93 and put them away till July '95. I was so happy to buy first E320 for Bipin with profit. But you can imagine how foolish I felt last yr.

Tony
I have seen references to IBM here before and I feel that I just have to comment on that. I indeed see a lot of similarities there

1) IBM used to be a "pc market" in additions to other products.
Intel is used to be the x86 market

2) "IBM compatible" was a must
"intel inside" was never that strong but not that far either

3) IBM introduced new mobo architecture to get rid of those minor players once and for all and it backfired
intel went slot-1 then rambus, etc and it backfired

4) now IBM is a great company but in no way ibm is the market anymore
Is that what going to happened to Intel? That is from 95% market share to 20%?

Gees, I hope you are wrong

Regards
-Albert

Tony,

It is amazing how the doom and gloomers come out of nowhere at times like this. They are about as useful as the ones claiming "this stock is going to the moon

What truly amazes me is that they come out AFTER a precipitous decline in the market! How many Bears were calling for a correction at 5100? Well they got one; after a drop of 30%, they STILL do not like the market. The same applies for companies like INTC down from 75 to 44 and AMAT from 115 to 65.

Listen to these people at your own risk. They are more often than not, contrary indicators.

Look at the bright side though, we now have new thread i%i$@s predicting that Intel will go to 20 and provide the oft necessary entertainment at times like this. Would strongly urge these folks to stay around with us until INTC starts doing well and keep doing what they are best at. :-)
