Hi Daniel Schuh; I think the book deal was no big deal. Unlike a lot of politicians, Newt actually could write, and write well. (He was an ex college professor of history, if I remember.) His books sold well enough that the company that gave him the big money up front made it back.

I had got the impression that what happened to Newt was an overactive libido, and an underage libido. Okay, I admit that I made up the "underage" part, just to make it scan better. But my memory for the whole thing is that it was the threat of a sex scandal that got rid of him. But the official news was that he was resigning because of the '98 elections.
