With the way this stock is looking I fear there is a better chance he might end up in jail for going on a telecom murder spree through lucent:)

Georgeb,
Thank you very much. That helps a lot. I never had spin off shares before.

I have one other question for those that remember the 3COM, PALM IPO. Since Lucent plans to IPO their microelectronics this January and then spin off the rest to shareholders in summer 2001, how does the IPO affect Lucent's price during the time before the actual spin off?

For example: Let's call the IPO company LUME. If LUME IPO price is at $50 billion market cap, does Lucent price get affected before we actually get the rest of the spin off shares?

The reason why I ask is because I had a look at 3COM's and PALM's price action leading to the IPO which 3COM rocketed to the moon. Then once PALM started trading, 3COM's price kind of followed theirs in trend. And eventually, there is this big gap down on 3COM's price (I assume that's when they gave their shareholders the rest of the PALM shares.

So, what's the best way then to play Lucent and their planned LUME IPO and spin off.

Thanks you all in advance.
